Wesley Miller

December 28, 1941 - September 8, 2007

Wesley Lee, son of Vona Lee (McGuire) and Gerold Wesley Miller was born on December 28, 1941 in Alva, Oklahoma. He passed away suddenly in E.R. at the Alva Share Medical Center on the 8th of September at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 10 days. He attended the Alva School System with the graduating class of 1960. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and retired after 20 years of active duty. While stationed at Fort Ord, California he met and married Della Maria Wolf on May 11, 1963. To their marriage three children, Margaret, Allen, and Jennifer were born. Wesley proudly served in the United States Army. He served tours of duty overseas, his first was Korea in 1963-1964. After he returned to the United States, he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. His next assignment was Fort Eustis in Virginia. After being in Virginia in 1965, he was sent to Vietnam for the first time. He came back to the states and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado for about a year. In 1967 he returned to Vietnam, for his last and final tour in Vietnam. He was then stationed at Fort Carson. In 1969, Wesley was sent to Germany where he was stationed for three years. From Germany he was assigned to an army detachment at Homestead Air Force Base in Southern Florida. The family was there a little over a year. In 1972 Wesley received orders for Schoffield Barracks on Oahu, Hawaii. Ironically, after Hawaii, Wesley received orders for Fort Ord in California in 1977. Wesley and his family remained at Fort Ord until his retirement in 1981. After his retirement from the Army, Wesley and his family moved back to his hometown of Alva. With a still young family to support, Wesley found employment with Robert R. Brown Construction Company. After Brown's death, Wesley worked briefly for Gene McGill until an accident forced his final retirement. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his father on December 5, 1979; his mother on May 1, 1993; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Miller. Wesley is survived by his former wife Della; their three children, Margaret and her husband Billy Case of Alva, Oklahoma; Allen and his wife Shawn of Hope Mills, North Carolina; and Jenni and her husband Rick Worley of Willow Springs, Missouri; and Six grandchildren: David, Della, Dustin and Dale Case, Jonathan Miller and Tyler Worley; two brothers and their wives: Fredrick Howard and Patty and John Richard and Linda all of Kansas; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
