Verna Helen Rauh was born July 2, 1926 in a farm home south east of Alva to Harry and Ida (Popp) Rauh. She passed away at Beadles Nursing Home on the 19 of February 2018 at the age of 91 years, 7 months, 17 days. She first attended school at the nearby rural school Pleasant Valley # 11 for seven years, moving to the Lutheran School in Alva and graduated from the eighth grade. Verna was confirmed into the Lutheran Church April 2, 1939. She attended Horace Mann High School on the college campus graduating in 1943 as salutatorian of her class. Miss. Rauh attended Northwestern and received a teaching certificate and taught at Redbird, a one room rural school house south of Dacoma. On May 28, 1948 she and Harold Dubben were married in Alva. To this marriage two children were born, Cheryl Lynne and Mark Harold. They lived on the farm southeast of Alva. Mr. Dubben passed away suddenly December 21, 1968. Mrs. Dubben returned to college to advance her degree and received a master�s degree. She taught special education at schools in Hardtner and Medicine Lodge, Kansas, from 1981 to 1991. Verna lived most of her life on the farm. Loved to garden and had an extensive iris garden. Up until a few years ago, was still driving a wheat truck to the elevator at harvest time. Verna has been an active member of Zion Lutheran Church all of her life. She served on various boards and in later years enjoyed helping and taking part in chicken noodle dinners. She often still played pitch with a church group. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her sister Dorothy (Mrs. Joe Lansdown) and both her parents. Verna Helen is survived by her children, Cheryl Dubben-Brooks, Le Claire, IA. and Mark Dubben, Alva, OK. She has one grandchild Aaron Jon Brooks, his wife Tamarah and a great grandchild, Kyra Lynn Brooks, of Le Claire, IA. A nephew, Bill Lansdown, and niece, Dorothy Jo Taylor, both of Alva OK, Great nephews, Jay Taylor Alva, OK and Jordan and Sara Taylor and their three children of Waynoka OK. And other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to N.W.O.S.U. scholarship fund through Wharton funeral Chapel.
