Rex Gard

December 24, 1916 - October 12, 2012

Rex Gard was born Dec 24th, 1916 on the family farm near Fairview, Ok. He passed away in Alva on October 12th at the age of 95. Rex was married to Bernice (Chic) Harper on October 18th, 1941 at Pauls Valley, and two years later their son Ben was born. Following their marriage, they moved frequently while Rex was in the Navy. In 1946 the family moved to Alva, where they opened Gard’s Jewelry; a landmark on the town square for the next 37 years. Rex was a fixture of the community; his charm and quick wit, coupled with Chic’s grace and warm spirit, earned them a never-ending list of friends everywhere they went. Rex was preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister, his wife Chic and his son Ben. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Patricia Gard of Norman; his Grandson, Jeff Gard and Jeff’s wife Margaret, of Grapevine, TX; by his great-grandchildren, Ben and Anna, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
