Lowell Melkus
December 5, 1939 - October 13, 2007
Lowell Linn, son of Laura May (Reed) and A.C. Melkus was born on the family farm on December 5, 1939. He passed away at his home near Freedom, on 13th of October at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 8 days. Lowell attended the Farry School System for all but his senior year. He graduated from Freedom High School with the class of 1958, where he played football and basketball. Then serving in the Alva Unit of the 45th from 1962 to 1968. On August 28, 1964 he was married to Rita C. (Katy) Eshleman at the First Christian Church in Alva. Following their marriage they lived in the Freedom area, where he farmed and Katy taught school. Lowell loved going on short trips with his wife, to Teachers meetings, State Fairs and Conservation Trips, being with his son and his family and playing pool with his buddies. He was a member of the Board of Directors for both the Woods County Conservation District and Oklahoma Economics Development Authority and a member of the Alva Moose Lodge. Lowell is survived by his wife, Katy of the home; one son, Linn and his wife Missy; and two grandsons, Brandon and Christopher all of Freedom. Two brothers, Keith and his wife Glenna of Larned, Kansas; Francis and his wife Mary of Amarillo, Texas; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Bobby and Karen Eshleman of Enid and Tommy and Cathy Eshleman of Kearney, Nebraska; and a sister-in-law Debbie Eshleman and Steve of Independence, Missouri many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends in the Alva, Cherokee and Freedom area.
