Junior Shafer
February 24, 1924 - April 11, 2008
Raymond Junior, son of Beulah Estella (Arndt) and Raymond Mitchell Shafer was born February 24, 1930 in Alva. He passed away at the Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid on the 11th day of April at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 18 days. He attended the Alva public school system. He then started working for the Flour Mills of America as a machine operator. On June 30, 1950 in Alva Junior was married to Anna May Nusser. To Their marriage eight children, Ruth Faye, Lonnie Joe, Raymond Edward, Donna May, Iris Rose, Clint Jay, Anita Dee and Ted Eugene where born. Ann passed away March 10, 2006. He then joined the United States Marine Corp on February 25, 1952. He arrived in Korea in September of 1952 after serving in the Korean War he was Honorably discharged on February 25, 1960. After his discharge they made Alva their home and he starting working for Brunsteter Motors. He then went to work for the State Highway Department. Mr. Shafer was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Jess and John Edward and a sister, Verla Bixler. Junior is survived by four daughters and their husbands, Ruth and Jim Keigley, Donna and Clyde Holcom and Anita and Tom Streich all of Alva and Iris and Russell Wilson of Enid, four sons and their wives, Lonnie and Laurie of Weatherford, Clint and Dawn of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Raymond and Nancy and Ted and Cindy all of Alva. Seventeen grandchildren, Christa and Wayne Hegstrom, Anna Keigley, Ryne Shafer, Andrea and Steve Finch, Leslie Shafer, Janae Shafer, Shalee Shafer, Tyler and Kim Holcom, Laine and Jerry Fry, Coby and Kelli Wilson, Amber Wilson, Meagan Shafer, Brennon Shafer, McKayla Shafer, Kendra and Michael Stephens, Alesi Streich, and Jared Streich, nine great grandchildren, Robert Hegstrom III, Briley Wilson, Kelci Wilson Addison Wilson, Shane Fry and Jacie Fry, Tyler Jr., Kacie Moore and Aidan Stephens. One sister, Velma Dennis three brothers and their wives; Gerald and Jennie Shafer of Tempe, Arizona, Allen and Pat Shafer and Dean Shafer all of Alva a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
