Harold Benson
October 18, 1917 - April 29, 2007
Harold, son of Maude Ann (Highfill) and Elza Albert Benson was born on the farm west of Alva on October 18, 1917. He passed away at the Alva Share Medical Center on the 29th of April at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 18 days. He attended the Mount Vernon Rural Grade School where he graduated. He joined the C.C. Camp and was stationed at Wagner, Oklahoma. He then went to Denver for Gates Rubber Company and headed for California to work on the San Francisco Bay Bridge. In 1944 he joined the U.S. Army serving in France as a Medical Corpman. On November 23, 1946 he was married to Etha Gray in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. After their marriage he worked in the Alva Roller Mills. In 1959 they went to Hooker working for Texco Grain Company. In 1979 they retired to Alva and he worked part time at Hackler Grain Company. He was active in the Alva Senior Citizen. Mr. Benson was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters; Joan Hall, Lu Ella Sternberger and Faye Hager, a brother Donald. Harold is survived by his wife Etha of the home, a son and his wife Bennie and Kelly all of Alva. Two sisters; Alice McCrady of Castle, Oklahoma and Marian Jean and Bill Hatcher of Enid, a brother and his wife Jim and Gwen of Heavener, Oklahoma, a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
