David Langton

December 29, 1923 - October 1, 2012

David Allen Langton, Jr. was born on December 29, 1923, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Building prizewinning balsawood models of airplanes during his high school years was an early expression of both his interest in airplanes and his lifelong penchant for designing. This interest in planes took him to California where he was the first of his buddies to volunteer for service in WW II; however, rheumatic fever kept him from his dream of flying. In 1943, David met and married Betty Joyce Roberts, the love of his life. They lived for a time in San Bernardino while he attended Redlands University and welcomed the birth of their first daughter, Nancy. After moving to Long Beach, daughter Kerry was born into the family. Appreciation for David’s character and quality work as camera salesman and photo developer led to his being asked to move to Boise, Idaho to start a C.C. Anderson store there. Then, after a winter in Massachusetts, followed by a year in Alva, the family returned to California where the birth of James David completed the circle. His unfaltering commitment to family and his sense of fiscal responsibility resulted in working three jobs...sales, photo processing, and free lance photography. David’s love for the Lord Jesus and dedication to His church brought treasured experiences and friendships as well as opportunities to serve in such ministries as Ann Clark’s mission to the Navahos. His decision to begin his long association with Sears, as salesperson and finally west coast buyer, also enabled him to give more to the Lord’s work. When the family was grown, Dave and Betty enjoyed travel, especially on their Moto Guzzi motorcycle. After retirement, they experienced living in the Midwest. Along the way, Dave enriched lives as a designer/builder of fine furniture, doll houses, and toy barns. Being a craft show entrepreneur allowed him to do what he enjoyed most…interact with people. There is no greater tribute to any man than to say he was truly devoted to his Lord and his family...dedicated to being a man of integrity and a man after God’s own heart. David Allen Langton was such a man. PDF Printable Version
