David Wagner Franz

October 11, 1930 - February 23, 2022

David Wagner, beloved son of Ruth Amanda (Braun), and Henry Martin Franz, was born in Chicago, Illinois October 11, 1930 and went Home to Jesus in Wichita, Kansas on February 23, 2022. Dave is the third of four children and is survived by his sister, Marjorie Ann (Marge); his sister Ruth Katheryn and brother Henry Braun (Hank), and parents having preceded him in death. Dave was married to the late Maxine Golightly, and is the father of Peggy Lee, (Doug), David Steven (Jennifer), Charles Martin and Timothy Adam (Sylvia). There are several grandchildren and great grandchildren in whom, as with his children, he took great delight. He later married the late Barbara Bishop and much enjoyed her family. The Armed Services of his country called Dave in 1951 and he served proudly in both the Air Corps and the Army, in Korea (twice) and other places of conflict. He retired as Master Sergeant in Civil Engineering in 1986, having attained 35 years of service. He was a soldier through and through, deeply loyal and proud of his country. Attending night school, he trained as an electronics technician and his working career was mainly with Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, where the family made their home. His fine mechanical skills were used in other employment as well. An avid reader and learner, Dave took up hobbies of breeding and showing Siamese cats, raising beautiful Iris flowers and owned D&B Airguns. Hunting and fishing, playing pool and camping with his family filled Dave with joy, as did a good competitive game of Dominoes, which he enjoyed until the end of his life. Dave was raised in the Alva First Presbyterian Church, which he always considered to be his home church and his family derives much comfort in returning with him to this Church Memorial gifts may be made to the Presbyterian Church through Wharton Funeral Chapel. Wharton Funeral Chapel is entrusted with final arrangements and his family will greet friends at the chapel on Thursday evening, March 3, 2022 after 6:30 p.m.
