Arlene Lahr

Arlene Evelyn Lahr born January 2, 1916 to Arthur William and Augusta Louisa Schwartz at Raymondville, Texas. Arlene went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 24, 2009. Arlene was presently residing at the Harrah Nursing Center in Harrah Oklahoma. When Arlene was three months old her mother passed away and she was sent to live with her mother’s grandparents, August and Louisa Zeidler in Howard Lake Minnesota until she was six years old. She was then sent to Jefferson Oklahoma and lived with the McCartney’s, friends of her father, to be with her sister. Arlene was there several years and then went back to live with her father and grandmother in Jefferson Oklahoma where she attended high school through her junior year. Arlene went back to Minnesota for a visit and while working in a restaurant in Howard Lake Minnesota, she met the love of her life, Peter Lahr. They married August 26, 1934 in St Paul, Minnesota. Peter and Arlene were married for 56 years and to their marriage three children were born, Marlene Yvonne, Peter Wayne and Jerald John Arthur. Following their marriage they lived in St. Paul Minnesota, Howard Lake, Minnesota and then moved to Jefferson, Oklahoma where they lived until 1956. They then moved to Wichita, Kansas until 1978 and then moved to Alva, Oklahoma. They were members of the United Methodist Church in Alva. Arlene lived in Alva until the death of her husband, December 11, 1990. She then moved to a retirement center at Ardmore Village, Ardmore, Oklahoma until 1996 when she moved to the Harrah Retirement Center, Harrah, Oklahoma. Arlene regularly attended the Harrah United Methodist Church while living in Harrah, Arlene worked as a waitress at the Model Eat Café in Howard Lake, Minnesota for a year and at a corn canning factory in Winsted, Minnesota for three years and then as a telephone operator after moving to Jefferson, Oklahoma. When Peter and Arlene moved to Wichita, Kansas she took care of children as a baby sitter for several different families for seventeen years. Arlene was preceded in death by her first son, Peter Wayne at age, 5 months, her parents, husband, Peter (Pete) Lahr, her sister, Irene Dahlem and her daughter Marlene Yvonne Dodge. As long as she was able she made sure she sent out birthday cards to all of the children and grandchildren. Arlene is survived by her son and his wife, Jerald and Marilyn Lahr of Choctaw, Oklahoma. Nine grandchildren and their spouses, Linda Louie, Wayne Dixon, Reese Dixon, Janet K. Anderson, Sheila and Bill Cowart, Shelly Curry, Sharene and Matt Smith, Troy and Sheri Lahr, and Edward and TJ Lahr plus thirteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and their families. PDF Printable Version
