Ray Owen, son of Juanita A. (Bodine) and Jennings Boatman, was born in Alva, Oklahoma on July 2, 1924. He passed away at the Enid Integris Bass Baptist Health Center on July 24, 2010 at the age of 86 years and 22 days.
He attended the Alva School System where he played on the 1941 undefeated Goldbug team as a guard/tackle. On August 19, 1943 he joined the United States Marine Corps serving in the South Pacific Theater, Guam, Marianes Islands, Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, occupation of China and after the war he helped disarm Japan and was discharged on February 4, 1946.
Ray was married to Elizabeth Potuznik and to their marriage two daughters, Leaha and Kathy were born. Following their marriage Ray worked on the Texas Seismograph crew in many places, sold cars for Ewalt - DeVinney Motor Company and later purchased the business.
Ray was married to Wanda Bagenstos on August 23, 1976 in Alva, Oklahoma.
Following their marriage, they lived in Alva. He worked for Woods County Highway Department and retired. In 1990, they went to Nescatunga at the Salt Plains Lake. In 1998 they moved to Jet where he drove the Timberlake school bus.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Alva Elks Lodge for 47 years, the 6th Marine Division Association, and the Cimarron Cowboys Association.
Mr. Boatman was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Ray is survived by his wife Wanda, two daughters and their husbands Leaha and Rick Brier of Austin, Texas and Kathy and Terry Page of Wausau, Wisconson; four step children, Ronnie Bagenstos, of Oklahoma City, Kim & Trigg Stanley, of Jet, Jan & Tom Zelnicek, of Enid, Dirk & Lesley Bagenstos, of Cherokee; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
